Creating New Study Abroad/Away Opportunities

The Office of Global Opportunities (OGO) is proud to support bet8九州登录入口's strategic priority to provide experiential learning opportunities for all students.

Creating an 俄亥俄州-Credit Program

教师-led study away programming is an integral part of that strategy which offers the following benefits to students:

  • 俄亥俄州 course offerings that map directly to a participant’s DARS
  • A cohort of 俄亥俄州 students who travel 和 experience new places, 文化, 和 academic settings together
  • 俄亥俄州 faculty or staff members serving as program directors who provide instruction, 学术支持, 和 on-site guidance throughout the duration of the program.
  • Program dates that align with 俄亥俄州 calendar, especially winter break, spring break, 和 summer
  • Pre-Departure meetings with faculty 和 fellow participants to prepare logistically 和 academically for program travel

Step 1: Create Program Proposal

Discuss your intentions 和 programmatic goals with your academic leadership.  Submit a program proposal which outlines the big picture goals for the student experience.

访问 the following webpage for more details about the proposal process:

Call for Program Proposals

Note: Some study away experiences are approved 和 managed through separate processes.

  • 教师 interested in pursuing a program offering College of Business courses should contact 安德鲁Pueschel斯蒂芬妮锋利.
  • 教师 interested in pursuing the development of a program that is based locally should contact the Office of Experiential Learning.
  • 教师 interested in establishing a program that is primarily internship, consulting or practicum-based should consult with their college.

If approved, the program will need to be reviewed by the Study Away Committee (SAC). Please contact Catherine Marshall, marshalc@俄亥俄州.edu, for access to the SAC proposal.

Step 2: Develop Your Program

Once your proposal is approved, you will be assigned an OGO program coordinator as well as an Experiential Learning team member to assist you through the program planning stages. You will work together to build out the inclusions 和 activities that support the intended academic 和 experiential goals of the program. Your OGO point person will serve as liaison to your selected onsite program provider 和 share the fully articulated program requirements.

Exchange Start-Up Information

Over the years, 俄亥俄州 has entered into a number of exchange agreements. Exchanges offer the benefits of"

  1. careful assessment of curricular 和 academic compatibility for sending 和 receiving students,
  2. promotion of ongoing 和 long-term academic connections between faculty 和 students,
  3. maintenance of tuition at the home/sending institution, 和
  4. in some cases, diversity of international students within the undergraduate student population.

Exchanges are most successful when there is (1) direct faculty 和 departmental support, (2) long-term commitment 和 (3) an agreement is preceded by a careful analysis of specific curricular fits.

Promotion of exchange balance is vitally important to ensuring a successful exchange. Achieving a balanced number of students sent 和 students received is a perpetual challenge at 俄亥俄州 和 at most US universities; in short, more students are eager to attend a US college for a term or two than US students are eager to venture abroad. 因此, OGO encourages carefully considered exchanges, preferably driven by student desire 和 study abroad trends.

教师, departments 和 colleges interested in pursuing an exchange agreement, should make contact Kate McClure katebmcclure@俄亥俄州.edu in the Office of Global Affairs to discuss their plans.
